Our Nassau County ASA Umpires have proudly donated a game fee to help support our troops. Two thousand dollars was collected from their game fees and donated to the Jacob's Adopt-A-Soldier Program.
On Saturday, November 20th 2004 The Nassau County ASA Umpires Association held their Annual Dinner Dance and presented a two thousand dollar check to Dorine Kinney, the founder of the Jacob's Adopt-A-Soldier Program.
The Foundation was started by Dorine in honor of her son SPC. Jacob Fletcher a paratrooper with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. Jacob was killed in action in Iraq on November 14th, 2003. This Program supports soldiers that do not have any family or support from home. It also helps families that cannot afford to send their soldiers packages. As of December 6, 2004 the program has sent packages weighing over 20,000 lbs. to the troops.
Long Island District 8 ASA is proud to lend support to charities like these. In past years, Long Island families of the September 11 tragedy which were in need of assistance were given donations by our Umpires. Long Island District 8 ASA hopes to continue their support in the future.
